About Mara Ellison

Plain talk for homes shaped by water, weather, and Ohio’s industrial past.

Why I edit Sludge Safety

I live in Marietta, near the meeting of the Muskingum and Ohio rivers. I grew up in Belmont County. Muddy boots stayed by our basement door. County water reports piled up on the kitchen table.

I studied journalism and environmental studies at Ohio University. My work has focused on turning water notices, soil reports, and home repair terms into clear steps. Sludge Safety began with a question I heard often: What can I check or fix at home while a bigger cleanup moves slowly?

My editorial method

I compare public specifications, independent certifications, manuals, warranty terms, and patterns in verified owner reports. I do not claim hands-on testing unless it is documented. A home kit is not a certified lab. A filter is not a cure for every contaminant. I will say so when a tool reaches its limit.
